SARASOTA, FL — Emma Weyant, a Sarasota swimmer who won a silver medal at the Tokyo Summer Olympics, launched a new swimwear collection with Sporti for SwimOutlet earlier this month.

With her new swimwear line, Sporti x Emma Weyant, the swimmer is “ready to step into the daylight,” SwimOutlet wrote in an Instagram post. “Her signature collection by Sporti invites you to explore fields of flowers and soak in the warmth of spring time. Let your training suits transport you to sunshiny days with sweet floral prints and dreamy solids.”

Weyant wrote in her own Instagram post, “So thankful for everyone (at SwimOutlet) for bringing this beautiful dream to life. This collection tells a story of all the things that are close to my heart and I’m so excited to share it with all of you.”

She also told SwimSwam.com, “I wanted this collection to represent always believing in yourself. It’s always been a dream to be an Olympian since I was a little girl, but then progressing through the stages, that dream really turned into more of a goal. And with the support of my family and teammates, I realized that this dream could be real. And now to have my own swim collection? It’s a dream come true.”

She came in second place in the women’s 400-meter individual medley with a time of 4:32.76 at the Tokyo Summer Olympics in July 2021. It was Weyant’s first time participating in the international competition.

To get to the Olympics, the Sarasota native outswam three former Olympians — Flickinger, Melanie Margalis and Leah Smith — during the U.S. Olympic swimming trials in Omaha, Nebraska in June 2021. She completed her trial race in 4:33.81.

Weyant made headlines again in March of last year when Lia Thomas eked out a win against the Olympic medalist to become the first transgender woman to win an NCAA swimming championship.

The inclusion of transgender athletes in women’s sports has been considered controversial by some, and there was some backlash against Thomas for her win.

After the NCAA championship, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis even signed a proclamation declaring Weyant the “rightful winner” against Thomas, then a University of Pennsylvania senior.

In February, more than 300 current and former NCAA, Team USA and international swimmers and divers signed and released an open letter in support of Thomas to the NCAA.

Weyant, then swimming for the University of Virginia, wasn’t among the athletes who signed the letter.

Last summer, the Sarasota native transferred to the University of Florida, according to a news release from the Gators.

She made her debut for Florida in the team’s first meet of the spring semester and final home dual meet of the season against Florida Atlantic University, Swimming World Magazine reported. She won three events — the 200-meter women’s freestyle, the 500-meter women’s freestyle and the 400-meter women’s individual medley.
