Pedestrian Seriously Injured In Sarasota Crash

A 66-year-old Sarasota woman was hospitalized after a Tuesday morning crash on Honore Avenue.

SARASOTA, FL — A 28-year-old Bradenton woman was cited following an early Tuesday morning crash in Sarasota that sent a pedestrian to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Beatriz Silva was headed eastbound on 17th Avenue in Sarasota, approaching the intersection with Honore Avenue around 2:57 a.m. Aug. 1. As Silva stopped her Nissan Sentra at a red light, troopers say Judith Avery, 66, of Sarasota was walking westbound on the northeast corner of Honore Avenue.

The traffic light Silva was facing turned green that time. Troopers say she proceeded to turn north onto Honore Avenue, failing to see Avery in the crosswalk “with authority given via the crosswalk symbol,” a highway patrol report said.

As a result, Silva’s car hit Avery, the patrol said. Avery was taken to a local hospital after the crash with serious injuries.

Silva was cited for failure to yield right-of-way to a pedestrian.
