Police Department Offers Scam Deterrent Training
The Sarasota Police Department will offer a presentation on how to identify and avoid scams and frauds.

Scams and frauds can come in many forms and target all sorts of people, and one class aims to teach senior citizens how to avoid becoming a victim.
The will present information 6 p.m. Monday concerning Scams and Fraud. The free training will be held in the Community Room of the Sarasota Police Department headquaters at 2099 Adams Lane.
The information will be presented by Detective Jack Carter. Detective Carter is a part of the Sarasota Police Department Criminal Investigations Division, Economics Crime Section. He has investigated cases ranging from multimillion dollar frauds to attempted scams.

Anyone can be the victim of these crimes; however, unscrupulous criminals have often targeted senior citizens as potential victims.
The training will include advice like, “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is."

• types of scams including identity theft;
• protecting yourself from scams / fraud; and
• reporting of scams.
Everyone is invited to attend this free training. No preregistration is required.
