Reports Of Shots Fired Lead To Convicted Felon’s Arrest

A convicted felon is back behind bars after Sarasota Police say he fled from them and was found in possession of a gun.

SARASOTA, FL — A 19-year-old convicted felon faces new criminal charges after the Sarasota Police Department received reports about a man shooting a gun in the area of 25th Street and North Orange Avenue early Monday morning.

According to police, when officers arrived in the area around 3 a.m. Feb. 6, they found Natron Sellers walking east on 25th Street “holding his waist band with his right hand.” Officers instructed Sellers to stop, but he ran west on 25th and then south on Leon Avenue, an email from the police department said.

Sellers was ordered to stop again, but he kept on running, according to police. “Officers then observed Sellers pulling up his jacket with his left hand and (he) pulled a black object out of his waistband with his right hand),” the email said.

Sellers was eventually found standing at the rear of a Toyota truck that was parked in the 2400 block of Leon Avenue. Police say they found a black .380 pistol under the truck with a round in the chamber and one round left in the magazine.

Sellers was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, resisting law enforcement without violence. He was being held Monday at the Sarasota County Jail in lieu of $15,500 bond. Sellers' prior arrests include aggravated battery and fleeing and eluding charges, jail records indicate.
