Road Closures Set For 2016 Sarasota Holiday Parade

The 21st annual event will honor of the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.

SARASOTA, FL – The streets of Sarasota will be filled with holiday cheer as the 21st Annual Downtown Sarasota Holiday Parade.

The 2016 Sarasota Holiday Parade is scheduled to begin at the corner of Main Street and U.S. Highway 301 in downtown Sarasota on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The parade will end at J.D. Hamel Park at the corner of Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue.

Aside from celebrating the holiday season, this year’s parade will honor the area’s veterans – especially its World War II veterans – in honor of the 75th anniversary of the attacks on Pearl Harbor.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, there will be several vehicle tow-away zones and street closure notices in effect for the following times:

  • 9 a.m.: Main Street closed from U.S. Highway 301 to U.S. Highway 41
  • Noon: Fletcher Avenue, Wallace Avenue and School Avenue all closed between Main Street and Fruitville Road
  • Noon: East Avenue closed from Fruitville Road and Ringling Boulevard
  • 2:30 p.m.: Lemon Avenue closed from Main Street to First Street
  • 5 p.m.: Gulfstream Avenue closed from U.S. Highway 41 to McAnsh Square
  • 5:30 p.m.: U.S. 301 closed from Fruitville Road to Ringing Boulevard
  • 7 p.m.: Parade begins

Towing will begin at 5:30 p.m. Vehicles not removed by the posted time will be towed at the owner’s expense. For more information on towed vehicles, call Upman’s Towing at (941) 365-7084.

Roads will reopen once the end of the parade reaches a two-block distance from each road closure.
