Sarasota Boy Dies After Being Struck By Pickup
A 9-year-old Sarasota boy died Monday after his bicycle was struck by a pickup truck, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

SARASOTA, FL — A 9-year-old Sarasota boy died Monday after his bicycle was struck by a pickup truck, according to Florida Highway Patrol. The child was identified as Roman Miller.
Troopers said the child was crossing Nodosa Drive in a crosswalk at the time of the crash along Webber Street. The boy was taken to Doctors Hospital by first responders where he was pronounced dead.
FHP said the crash occurred around 7:3o a.m. as the pickup truck was heading north along Nodosa Drive just past a stop sign.

"We can confirm that one of our students was involved in a fatal accident while biking to school," said a spokeswoman for Sarasota County Schools. "The student was in third grade at Brentwood Elementary."
She said that district Superintendent Todd Bowden was visiting with staff and children at the school on Monday.

"We have shared the tragic news with parents and staff, and we are all grieving," the spokeswoman said.
"We also have our crisis team here who will assist additional counselors who are here today and will be on hand throughout the week for any staff or student needing someone to talk to," she explained. "Parents have been notified of the loss and are welcome to come to school to be with their child."
No charges were immediately filed against the driver, who was identified as 25-year-old Charity Kathy Lamb of Sarasota. Florida Highway Patrol said alcohol was not suspected.
Lamb was traveling north on Nodosa Drive when the boy was struck by the front of her Silverado. She was not injured, according to FHP.
The incident remains under investigation.
The district spokeswoman added that school officials were also making resources available for parents on how to talk to children about grief and loss.
