Teacher Arrested on DUI in Manatee County
Pine View language arts teacher Thomas Krause was arrested by Manatee County Sheriff's Office Thursday night.

A teacher at Sarasota County's gifted and talented school is facing a DUI charge.
Thomas J. Krause, 59, was arrested by Manatee County Sheriff's Office Thursday for driving under the influence, according to the sheriff's office.
Krause, of 6500 15 St. E., Sarasota, was pulled over on the 6900-block of U.S. 31 travelling north after Deputy Georgian noticed Krause making several traffic infractions. A full report on Krause's arrest is not yet available, said Dave Bristow, spokesman for the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Krause is a language arts teacher at Pine View School, said Scott Ferguson, spokesman for . He has been with the school system since 1984, he said.
School employees are encouraged to let the school system know up front about a DUI arrest but are not required to report until a judge rules on the results of a blood-alcohol, field sobriety or Breathalyzer test, Ferguson said.

Krause has not faced any additional discipline yet from the school system, Ferguson said. Typically a DUI arrest would result in a suspension if the teacher wasn't able to show up for work, he said.
