Sarasota police collected 38 pounds of "unused, unexpired and unwanted" prescriptions over the weekend.

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota police collected 38 pounds of "unused, unexpired and unwanted" prescriptions over the weekend, according to Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department.
Judge said the agency's Street Crimes Unit collected the prescription drugs from residents on Saturday under the National Drug Take-Back Initiative of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
"Members of the DEA will collect the drugs that were dropped off from the Sarasota Police Department Property Unit and dispose of them properly," she explained.

Residents who missed Saturday's event can still drop off their unwanted prescription medication in the lobby of the Sarasota Police Department headquarters at 2099 Adams Lane.
There is a permanent drop box in the lobby, which is available seven days per week from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., she added.
