Sarasota Man Accused Of Pointing Gun At 16-Year-old, Friend

A 19-year-old Sarasota man was accused of pointing a silver handgun at a 16-year-old boy and his friend during an attempted robbery.

SARASOTA, FL — A 19-year-old Sarasota man was accused of pointing a silver handgun at a 16-year-old boy and his friend during an attempted robbery, according to Sarasota police. Roshon Mae, Jr. is facing a charge of attempted robbery with a firearm.

Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department said that the 16-year-old ran away when he saw the gun on March 21 around 4:30 p.m. The incident took place in the 1500 block of 28th Street.

"The juvenile victim told officers that he and his friend were walking home. When they reached the victim’s home, the victim told officers he heard Mae yell his name," said Judge, who said Mae pulled out a handgun at one point.

"Mae showed a handgun and pointed it at the victim and his friend and told them to empty their pockets. The victim took off running in fear," said Judge. "The victim’s friend fanny pack was forcefully taken from him."

The friend, who was not identified, refused to cooperate with police, according to Judge. It was not clear if he was also a juvenile.

Mae was taken into custody on March 22 without incident in the 2700 block of Noble Avenue. He was taken to Sarasota County Jail and was being held on a $25,000 bond.
