Sarasota Man Killed in U.S. 41 Crash

A pedestrian was killed in a Monday morning crash along U.S. 41 near Seminole Drive.

SARASOTA, FL — A 57-year-old Sarasota man is dead following an early Monday morning crash on U.S. 41 near Seminole Drive.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Jesse James Lantz, 43, of Sarasota was heading north on U.S. 41 around 6:26 a.m. Oct. 10. As Lantz traveled in the right lane approaching Seminole Drive on a green traffic signal, Jeffery Unger was standing on the southeast corner of U.S. 41 and Seminole.

Troopers say Unger crossed west in the northbound lanes. While Unger was inside the crosswalk, a highway patrol report said he violated Lantz’s right of way.

Lantz’s truck hit Unger, the report said. Unger died at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation with no charges filed as of yet. No further information is available.
