Sarasota Police: 29-year-old Man Impregnated 14-year-old Girl

A 29-year-old Sarasota man is facing charges for impregnation of a child and lewd or lascivious battery after Sarasota Police arrested him Wednesday.

A 29-year-old Sarasota man is facing charges for impregnation of a child and lewd or lascivious battery after arrested him Wednesday. 

Henry Tyrone Cokley III, who goes by Henry Keno, is being held in Sarasota County Jail without bond after a month-long investigation that led to arrest, according to Sarasota Police.

The victim's mother reported to police at the department's headquarters on July 17 that her 14-year-old gave birth to a child June 24 and told police that the father is nearly 30 years old, according to police.

The lewd or lascivious batter charges is for a person who engages in sexual activity with a person between 12 and 16 years old, according to police, while the impregnation of a child charge is for a person 21 or older who impregnates a child younger than 16 years old.

Consensual sex and a victim's "lack of chastity" cannot be used as defenses for that charge, according to police. The impregnation charge is a third-degree felony.

Cokley's criminal history includes arrests on more than 80 previous criminal charges, 30 previous convictions including 17 felony convictions, according to police.
