Siesta Key Drowning Victim Identified

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of a woman who died in waters off Siesta Key Wednesday.

SARASOTA, FL — As the investigation into a suspected drowning in Siesta Key continues, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has released more details in the case.

According to the agency, beachgoers found Aimee Sue Hoover, 44, unresponsive, floating face down in the water around 2 p.m. May 10. Hoover was pulled from the water on the south side of Point of Rocks Beach and lifesaving efforts were attempted. Those efforts were unsuccessful, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office’s preliminary investigation revealed that Hoover and her husband, who has not been identified, were vacationing in the area. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania residents were reportedly snorkeling prior to Hoover's death, an email from the sheriff’s office said.

The Sarasota County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release an official cause of death.
