The $25,000 grant supports the Schooltime Performances: IMPROVing Communications Project.

The Van Wezel Foundation was awarded a grant from AT&T Aspire to support the Van Wezel’s Schooltime Performances – IMPROVing Communications Project. The innovative project allowed The Improvised Shakespeare Company to create lessons for middle and high school students to build college and career readiness skills through improvisation lessons. The grant also taught high school students collaboration, teamwork and critical thinking skills, all of which are as essential to the art of improvisation as they are to college and career readiness; provided teachers with a curriculum-rich learning module connected to the Van Wezel Schooltime Performance by “The Improvised Shakespeare Company,” a module that included a special learning guide outlining the IMPROVing Communicationslessons and a teacher workshop as well as helped support scholarships to students in need of tickets to “The Improvised Shakespeare Company” at the Van Wezel.
