Take A ‘Virtual Ride-Along’ With Sarasota Police

The Sarasota Police Department is inviting residents to 'ride-along' with officers via Twitter later this week.

SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota residents who want to know what it’s like to be an officer on the beat are invited to ride along with officers during Thursday’s Tweet from the Beat.

Conducted via Twitter, Tweet from the Beat enables residents to take a virtual ride-along with members of the Sarasota Police Department. The Feb. 2 event is meant to give folks an idea of what it’s like to be a day shift officer. The tweet event begins at 7 a.m.

Folks who want to join in just need to follow the Sarasota Police Department on Twitter. The agency’s handle is @SarasotaPD.

“Throughout the shift, traffic Officer Jason Frank and other patrol officers will share what they see and do through texts, videos, GIFs and photos,” an email from the police department said. The agency’s communications coordinator will also “ride along,” sharing tweets on the officers’ behalf. Residents who join in will also be able to ask officers questions, the agency noted.

Tweet from the Beat has been a regular outreach conducted by Sarasota police since November 2013.
