Torraco Runs For State's Attorney

Sarasota attorney John Torraco has announced his candidacy for the office of State Attorney for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit that includes Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties.  

“Public safety will always be the first priority, but the individual granted the privilege of this office must also be fiscally responsible and free from outside influences," Torraco said in a statement. "It’s time we did cost-effective and proven result-oriented prosecutions.  We need to stop throwing taxpayers’ money out the window with the revolving jail doors and reduce repeat offenses.” 

“My focus will be on effectively prosecuting violent crime, but also successfully tackling pill mills, public corruption and crimes, such as mortgage fraud and scams perpetrated upon the seniors. These types of prosecution must be given more attention by the State Attorney's office -- and under my watch, that will happen."  

“I’ve worked in the federal system for two judges, with federal prosecutors and participated in several investigatory congressional inquires while working at the White House Office of Legal Counsel.” said Torraco. “I know firsthand that federal prosecutions are vigorous, effective, and ethical.  That is what is needed.  The public is entitled to nothing less than the most prepared and independent prosecutions given the incredible amount of money they have invested in our criminal justice system.” 

Torraco earned his Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center.  He has lived in Florida since 2004 and is a full-time adjunct professor at the State College of Florida, where he teaches law studies at the college's Venice and Bradenton locations.  

He has a solo legal practice and office in south Sarasota County, where he focuses on civil and criminal law, both on the federal and state levels, and also serves as an arbitrator within the securities industry.
