Weekend Things: Daredevil Wallenda Comes to Ringling

Daredevil and Sarasota native Nik Wallenda will take questions from kids Saturday at the Ringling Museum.

1. Legendary high wire daredevil and Sarasota's own Nik Wallenda will be a part of Center Ring Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. in the backyard of the Circus Museum. Wallenda will explain to the audience at this kid-centric event the behind the scenes aspects of being a self-made daredevil. Wallenda plans to walk across Niagara Falls on a high wire this summer. Tickets to the museum are $25 for adults; $20 for senior citizens; $5 for children ages 6-17; and free for children 5 and under accompanied by an adult, as well as museum members. 

2. The Sarasota Jazz Festival continues tonight at with Bill Watrous with the Sarasota Jazz Project. Jazz trombonist Bill Watrous is a nine-time winner of Downbeat magazine's Critics and Readers poll. He's played with the greats, including Maynard Ferguson, Woody Herman and Quincy Jones. The Sarasota Jazz Project is a 17-piece band dedicated to the preservation and performance of contemporary and traditional big band jazz music. 3. An open bar to celebrate the Sarasota Open tennis tournament happens at 6 p.m. Friday inside Ed Smith Stadium. The is a gala to celebrate the sport and roll out events for the open, which will play April 14-22 at The Tennis Gardens on Longboat Key. The party costs $100 and gets you access to an open bar. For $200, you get one pass to VIP lounge during Sarasota Open ($100 value), 4 box seats to an early round day at Sarasota Open ($200 value), and complimentary champagne and open bar.

4. The practices and games continue this weekend at . The O's play the Braves today at 1:05 p.m. and the Boston Red Sox Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Tickets are available at Sarasota Walmarts and online.

5. The First Watch Sarasota Half Maraton races through the city on Sunday. If you're going to watch and cheer on the runners, check out a course map on the Half Maraton website.
