What Sarasota Patch is Covering This Week

Today Sarasota Patch will be taking pictures at the ribbon cutting ceremony for Bird Key Park and of lucky couples saying "I Do" on Siesta Beach tonight. 

Tomorrow, we will have a story about how the Sarasota County School District is using iPads to make the district more efficient. Many principals across the district have been using the Apple products to conduct walkthroughs. 

On Tuesday the Sarasota County School Board will viewing a presentation about employee health insurance from the Financial Advisory Board. Currently, the district pays $46.7 million in health insurance, but if no changes are made that number sky rockets to $63.7 million by 2014.

That same day, the district will also be getting an update on the budget and will discuss what impacts proposed state cuts to education will have on the district and its staff. 

On Tuesday night the District One City Commission candidates will be having a forum community meeting on at the Crocker Church, 1260 12th St. in Pioneer Park. Doors open at 6:30pm. The candidates are  Richard Dorfman, Linda Holland, Willie Shaw, and Frederick D. Williams.

The Charter Review Committee will be meeting this week and discussing city commission compensation, the process for appointments of city manager and other city department heads and to vote to change the titles from mayor, vice mayor and acting mayor to chair, vice chair and acting chair.
