Woman Killed Crossing South Tamiami Trail In Sarasota
A woman was killed Monday night when she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross a darkened stretch of South Tamiami Trail.

SARASOTA, FL -- A woman was killed Monday night when she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross a darkened stretch of South Tamiami Trail.
Genevieve Judge of the Sarasota Police Department said Tuesday that the woman was struck around 10 p.m. near the Grove Street intersection..
The name of the victim was not immediately released by Sarasota police.

"A vehicle was traveling southbound on South Tamiami Trail at Grove Street," said Judge. "A pedestrian, an adult female, was crossing South Tamiami Trail from west to east, not in a crosswalk, in a dark area, when she was struck by the vehicle."
Judge said the driver of the vehicle stopped immediately and cooperated with police.

"The pedestrian died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash," said Judge.
Judge said that the crash remains under investigation.
