SARASOTA, FL -- A woman was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of the Publix supermarket at Paradise Plaza Wednesday morning, according to Sarasota police.

"Our detectives are on scene," Lt. Robert Armstrong of the Sarasota Police Department told Patch, adding that the investigation was still active.

The incident happened shortly after 10:30 a.m. when police were called to the store.

"Just after 10:30 a.m. today, Sarasota Police officers were dispatched to the Publix parking lot at 3825 South Osprey Ave., Sarasota for a report of an armed robbery," Armstrong explained.

The armed robber was described as male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and last seen wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants.

Armstrong said the bandit got away with the woman's purse and fled in a dark sedan, possibly a Toyota. The woman was not injured.

"The suspect and the suspect vehicle have not been located at this time," Armstrong added.
