How to Help Central Tampa's Cold Weather Shelters

The cold weather shelters serving Central Tampa are open Tuesday night, Jan. 3, and they could use your help.

Meals for Hillsborough County's cold weather shelters are provided by , 2010 N. Florida Ave., and those wishing to donate non-perishable food items should contact them at 813-209-1000.

The Salvation Army, 1514 N. Florida Ave., will also be open Tuesday night. To donate, contact them at 813-221-4440.

Both shelters will be open at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Metropolitan Ministries serves families, while the Salvation Army is only for adults.

Chilly temperatures are expected Tuesday evening, and the National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued a hard freeze warning for the area.

This is the second time that Hillsborough County's cold weather shelters have opened this winter. Last year, cold weather shelters opened 16 days, assisting more than 3,100 individuals.
