Free Comic Book Day is Today in Seminole Heights

Green Shift Music and Comics in Seminole Heights is participating in this day devoted to comic books that is meant to encourage appreciation for different series and heroes.

If you are a fan of comic books or want to encourage children to read the original form of The Avengers, Spiderman, Batman and more, you'll be happy to hear that Free Comic Book Day is today (Saturday, May 4).

Free Comic Book Day, created in 2002, always falls on the first Saturday in May. Participating comic book specialty stores across America give away at least one free comic book to anyone who visits their shop that day.

Retailers, publishers, suppliers and distributors work together to make certain comics free in an effort to reward comic book veterans and draw in new fans on this day.

Locally, Green Shift Music and Comics, 5226 N. Nebraska Avenue, is participating in Free Comic Book Day, said Manager Don Taylor.

“It's an opportunity for people to try a comic for free," he said. "It's no cost to them. If they never saw a comic before or didn’t know what one was, it's a chance to get one for free and try one out.”
