North Highland Road Closed For Work On Flooding Relief Project
The Southeast Seminole Heights Flooding Relief Project involves designing and building a major stormwater system to improve drainage.

TAMPA, FL — North Highland Avenue from West Frierson Avenue to West Haya Street will remain closed for another week as the city of Tampa continues work on the Southeast Seminole Heights Flooding Relief Project.
The Southeast Seminole Heights Flooding Relief Project involves designing and building a major stormwater conveyance system to improve drainage and reduce flooding of roadways, homes and businesses.
This work is part of the city’s ongoing commitment to invest in neighborhoods and upgrade essential infrastructure. Construction began in the fall and will be completed in about three years.

Construction will cost approximately $39 million, including $29.1 million for stormwater improvements, $8.9 million for water improvements and $555,000 for transportation improvements.
The Southwest Florida Water Management District is co-funding approximately $15.8 million for eligible stormwater design, permitting and construction costs for the project.

In the meantime, residents will have to put up with some dust and noise as streets are dug up to accommodate new wastewater and drinking water pipes.
Currently, North Highland Avenue is closed to southbound traffic at Hillsborough Avenue.
Drivers are being detoured to North Florida Avenue and Violet Street to travel southbound.
North Highland Avenue between West Frierson Avenue and West Haya Street will be open to traffic by 4 p.m. Friday, July 1, weather permitting.
The sidewalks in the work area are also closed during construction.
