Schools Placed On Lock-In Status Following Tampa Shooting

Shaw Elementary and West University Charter schools were placed on lock-in status Monday afternoon following a shooting.

TAMPA, FL — Tampa Police are investigating a shooting Monday afternoon at North 15th Street and East Fowler Avenue that resulted in Shaw Elementary and West University Charter schools being placed on lock-in status.

At 1:03 p.m., police were sent to the scene of a shooting on 15th Street and found an adult with a gunshot wound. Officers provided first aid until Tampa Fire Rescue arrived to transport the victim to the hospital.

A dark blue Altima was seen leaving the scene south on 15th Street, which is closed to traffic between East 109th and East Fowler avenues as officers investigate the shooting.

The two schools on lock-in status were placed on monitored access control before dismissal for the day.
