1 Person Hospitalized After Fire At Apartment Behind West Tampa Home

One person was taken to the hospital following an apartment fire early Saturday morning in West Tampa.

TAMPA, FL — One person was taken to the hospital following an apartment fire early Saturday morning in West Tampa.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue were called to the fire in the 4500 block of Knollwood Street at 1:32 a.m.

The first arriving engine confirmed fire was visible from the rear of the home. Crews stretched hose lines to fight the fire and were able to extinguish the blaze within 15 minutes.

The fire was in a detached apartment behind the main residence. Crews were able to limit the house's exposure to the blaze.

Additional crews conducted primary and secondary searches of the apartment, assisted with water supply and performed additional firefighting operations.

The only occupant had gotten out of the apartment before firefighters arrived was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of the blaze.
