2 Cuban Nationals Found With Credit Card Skimming Devices. FL Troopers

Two Cuban nationals pulled over on I-75 in FL were found with 4 credit card skimming devices, 20 fake credit cards, state troopers said.

BUSHNELL, FL — Two Cuban nationals pulled over Wednesday on Interstate 75 in Sumter County face multiple charges after being found with four credit card skimming devices, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Troopers pulled over their SUV for multiple traffic violations. While being questioned, “probable cause was determined” to search their vehicle, FHP said.

K9 Flip was brought to the scene and found the skimming devices, which are used for stealing and storing bank card information, as well as 20 fake credit cards.

The driver, identified as Carlos E. Del Pino, 34, and his passenger, Yandi Valdes Rodriguez, 35, both of Tampa, were determined to be Cuban nationals, FHP said.

Border Patrol was contacted and confirmed that the driver, Del Pino, had previously been charged by the U.S. Secret Service for possessing a credit card skimming device and had an active deportation order effective since 2019.

Both individuals were arrested and transported to Sumter County Jail without incident. At that point, Border Patrol placed a detainer on the driver, according to FHP.

Del Pino was charged with the following:

  • Criminal use of personal identification information, 11 felony counts
  • Possession and transfer of credit card-making equipment, four felony counts
  • Theft, obtaining credit card through fraudulent means, 16 felony counts
  • Unlawful possession of the personal identification information of another person, 11 felony counts
  • Use of scanning device, skimming device or re-encoder to defraud; possession of skimming device, four felony counts

Rodriguez faces the following charges:

  • Criminal use of personal identification information, 11 felony counts
  • Possession and transfer of credit card-making equipment, four felony counts
  • Theft, obtaining credit card through fraudulent means, 15 felony counts
  • Unlawful possession of the personal identification information of another person, 11 felony counts
  • Use of scanning device, skimming device or re-encoder to defraud; possession of skimming device, four felony counts
  • Traffic in or possess counterfeit credit cards, 11 felony counts
