2 People, Dog Rescued After Tampa-Area Boating Accident: Watch

TAMPA, FL — Two injured people and their dog were rescued from Tampa-area waters after a boating accident Saturday evening, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post. (Watch a video from the rescue below.)

The agency’s aviation and marine sections, as well as its fire rescue and the U.S. Coast Guard found them just after 6 p.m.

Their boat hit a wake from a cruise ship near Gadsden Point and sank, the sheriff’s office said.

They were able to swim to a buoy, where they were rescued and brought to Tampa General Hospital.

"Our team's coordinated response with other agencies led to the successful rescue of two people who desperately needed help," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "We will continue to work together to protect lives on our waterways."
