Cinco De Mayo Crackdown Nets 41 DUI Arrests

Authorities conducted a four-day operation around Cinco de Mayo, during which 41 people were accused of driving under the influence.

TAMPA, FL — More than 40 people were recently arrested during a four-day Cinco de Mayo operation, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Tuesday.

Operation Salted Rim was held from Friday-Monday and was a joint effort from Hillsborough County deputies and officers in Tampa and Temple Terrace.

Authorities said 41 people were arrested on charges of driving under the influence.

"If you choose to drink and drive, you're not just breaking the law, you're gambling with someone else's future," Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a news release. "Don't turn a night out into a lifetime of regret."

Authorities said they conducted 349 traffic stops, issued 23 citations and 326 warnings and arrested one person on a non-DUI charge.

"Thank you to our deputies and partner agencies for continuing to protect those who drive on our roadways intending to return home safely and for removing the dangerous individuals who don't," Chronister said in the release.
