Hillsborough High Schools Among Most Challenging in America

For the second year in a row, all of Hillsborough County's traditional public high schools are listed on The Washington Post's list of America's Most Challenging High Schools.

Plant High School led at 97th place and has ranked in the top 100 every year since 2004.

Seven high schools moved up on the list, including Strawberry Crest from 1319 to 412; Tampa Bay Technical from 984 to 419; and Spoto from 829 to 614.

These rankings take into account the 22,000 public high schools nationwide. Only 9 percent of the nation’s high schools made the list.

The list is based on the Challenge Index, which is intended as a measure of excellence and equity. America's Most Challenging High Schools ranks schools based on a formula that adds the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and college-level tests administered at a school and divides them by the number of seniors who graduated that year.
