- Tampa law enforcement and its affiliates are doubling the reward for the suspect in a fatal shooting of a 7-year-old boy. The victim was killed on July 4 near the Courtney Campbell Causeway, according to authorities. The reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect is increasing from $10,000 to $15,000. - Hillsborough County School District is navigating a decision that will impact over 1,700 students in the area after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his administration launched an attack on teaching AP Psychology at schools due to LGBT content, amid a battle with the College Board. The College Board will not offer course credit if the class is not taught as intended. The chaotic battle comes just as school is set to begin, thrusting student schedules and parents into a familiar political fight. (WFLA)
- Progress is being made in an upcoming Lotte Market in New Tampa, an Asian supermarket concept. No opening date has been made public yet, but photos in a local Facebook "Asian Foodies" group show signage coming up on the building. The supermarket will be located at 17605 Bruce B Downs Blvd. (That's So Tampa)
- Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson is warning that the new immigration law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis could negatively impact a range of industries in Florida, including in the Tampa area. Simpson said as costs rise on businesses in the state, those costs will be passed to consumers driving inflation in Florida even higher for residents. Florida already has the highest inflation in the United States and Tampa the highest of all major cities. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
- Oasis Opportunities is a nonprofit working to help children in need obtain clothes and toiletries ahead of the new school year in Tampa. The group normally serves 4,000 students a year, but that number is rising now due to high inflation. The nonprofit is seeking donations to help support their cause. (ABC Action News)
