The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened Saturday around 10:15 a.m.

PLANT CITY, FL — An Apopka man died Saturday following a single-car crash on Interstate 4 in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Police said the 54-year-old man was driving a Kia SUV west on I-4 around 10:15 a.m. when he suffered a medical emergency and lost control of the vehicle near Branch Forbes Road.

The vehicle then entered the median, collided with a guardrail and was redirected back across the highway, police said. After rotating, the SUV entered the outside grass shoulder, struck an embankment, became airborne and overturned in the tree line.
