Arrest Made In Attack ATM Customer

A man already in jail stands accused in a May 1 attack on a woman at a Tampa Amscot's ATM.

TAMPA, FL — An arrest has been made in an attack on a woman who was withdrawing money from a Tampa ATM earlier this week. A video released by the Tampa Police Department showing the attack in progress, as a witness looked on, reportedly led to the identity of the suspect.

“Thanks to anonymous tips provided by members of the public, Tampa Police detectives were able to positively identify Charles Omar McGee as the suspect seen in the video committing the robbery at the Amscot ATM,” the agency reported on Facebook Thursday.

Police posted the video of the May 1 attack on Facebook Wednesday. According to the agency, the victim was withdrawing cash at the 8409 N. Florida Ave. Amscot around 1:42 a.m. The video shows a man standing behind her as she completed the transaction. The man then wrestled with the woman “taking all the money she had just withdrawn,” the agency reported.

Police say McGee, 43, was already in jail on unrelated charges when he was identified as the suspect in the May 1 incident. Jail records indicate McGee was arrested on May 3 on out-of-county warrants related to theft.
