Bicyclist Killed In Crash With Motorized Scooter: FL Highway Patrol

A 72-year-old Tampa man on a bicycle died Saturday night after being hit by a woman on a motorized scooter, FL Highway Patrol said.

TAMPA, FL — A 72-year-old Tampa man on a bicycle died Saturday night after a crash with a woman on a motorized scooter, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The 41-year-old Tampa woman was heading south in the 11000 block of Dale Mabry Highway in the right turning lane just after 7:30 p.m. At the same time, the bicyclist was heading south along the lane marker separating the right turn lane and the outside travel lane.

While merging into the outside travel lane, she overtook the bicyclist and hit him with her motorized scooter, FHP said.

She suffered non-life-threatening injuries while the bicyclist suffered fatal injuries at the scene.
