Here are the top five stories today in Tampa:

1. Fireworks on 4th of July are believed to have been responsible for several fires in less than two hours on Monday, keeping Tampa Bay firefighters busy. Rob Herrin with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said several residents did not heed warnings from officials and that fireworks are best left to professionals. (Tampa Patch, WFLA)

2. A Black Lives Matter activist who was wrongfully arrested by New Port Richey Police Department in 2020 and then acquitted earlier this year is launching a civil claim against the city. The activist, Marlowe Jones, claims the charges disrupted his life and mental health for nearly two years and he has retained counsel from Natalie Jackson Law, who previously represented represented Trayvon Martin's family in another civil lawsuit. 3. Virgin Atlantic is considering adding a nonstop route between Tampa and London this winter, according to a report from United Kingdom-based Airport Coordination Limited. Virgin Atlantic plans to offer 75,852 seats across 294 flights connecting Tampa and London. The plan is not finalized at this time. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Business Journal)

4. Grand Central at Kennedy in Tampa's Channel District has sold to a Baltimore investor for $38.1 million. It represents the biggest sale of retail property in the area since 2014. The sale is the firm’s first purchase in Florida. (Business Observer)

5. Tampa Theatre will host its 10th annual BeerFest on Saturday, July 30 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are now available. The event "benefits the theater’s artistic, educational and community programs, as well as the ongoing preservation of the 95-year-old historic landmark." (Osprey Observer)

  • The National Indoor Soccer League (NISL) announced Tuesday that Yuengling Center will be home to its newest expansion team. The team's official name and full details will be announced Monday, July 11 at 10 a.m. at a press conference. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
  • Tampa health clinic owner, Angela Ippolito Duncan, was arrested and accused of being part of a six-figure insurance fraud scheme on Tuesday. She is facing charges of racketeering, planned participating and organizing an intentional traffic crash, and 45 counts of filing a false and fraudulent insurance claim. (WTSP)
  • The estate of an Illinois woman who died earlier in January from a listeria infection has filed a federal lawsuit Tuesday against ice cream company Big Olaf Creamery in Sarasota. "We have been transparent and have answered all their questions and provided them with all the information requested from us, as the health and well being of the public is our first priority," a statement Big Olaf Creamery statement reads.
