Did Bobcat Attack Man In Tampa Condo? Owner Says Animal Was Cat

The condo owner says she doesn't own a bobcat but a standard house cat named Calli

TAMPA, FL - A contractor who was inspecting a high-rise condo at the SkyPoint condominium building in downtown Tampa claims in a lawsuit that he was attacked by a bobcat on May 16. Marcos Hernandez says a bobcat injured him and the attack left him with "permanent or continuing" injuries, according to the lawsuit filed last month against condo owner Christine Lee.

The complaint says that Lee lives at SkyPoint, 777 N. Ashley Drive, and kept the bobcat in her condo.

But Lee and Skypoint Condominium Association say the bobcat is actually a house cat named Calli. Lee told News10 she doesn’t own a bobcat but a house cat. Skypoint Condominium Association, also named in the lawsuit, released a statement Thursday:

"Skypoint Condominium Association, Inc. (Skypoint) has been contacted regarding allegations made in a lawsuit filed by Marcos Hernandez that he was attacked by a “bobcat” in a unit of the Skypoint Condominium. Skypoint has investigated the allegations made by Mr. Hernandez and has determined that the alleged “bobcat” Mr. Hernandez claims attacked him is in fact a standard house cat named Calli."

The complaint states that Lee was "negligent, careless, incompetent ... in the ownership ... or keeping of her bobcat" and says Hernandez did nothing to provoke the animal.
