Here are the top five stories today in Tampa:
1. Hillsborough County Consumer & Veterans Services was awarded $1.65 million by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity to fund the expansion of the Veterans Resource Center and add the Veterans Educational and Cultural Center. Hillsborough County will break ground on the Veterans Resource Center addition in mid-2023. (Tampa Patch)
2. A Tampa Police Department Captain retired early during an investigation into how she drunkenly tried to use police identification to cut the line on a Busch Gardens ride, pushed an employee, and verbally attacked a fellow officer last October, according to reporting by Creative Loafing Tampa. Internal Affairs detective Jason Degagne says the officer still received full retirement benefits. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
3. Bread On The Bay is now open at 951 East 7th Avenue in Ybor City. Their signature item is the Latin Steak Au Jus, which features ribeye, grilled peppers, onions, tomatoes, provolone, and white American cheese, house aioli and crispy potato sticks, served with beef au jus. (That's So Tampa)
4. A Hernando County 13-year-old was arrested after deputies said he threatened to blow up a school bus last year. On October 18, 2021, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office was called about a bomb threat made to the Hernando County School Bus Transportation Depot. New information on Monday allowed an arrest to be made. (WFLA)
5. The Florida Highway Patrol said troopers are investigating how the body of a 21-year-old man from Brandon ended up in Tampa Bay after a crash on the Howard Frankland Bridge Monday afternoon. After the body was identified, investigators were able to link the man to a vehicle on the emergency shoulder in the southbound lanes of I-275. (ABC Action News)

- The City of Tampa, Team Tampa Rowing, and Tampa Athletic Club are hosting the 22nd annual U.S. Rowing National Learn To Row Day this Saturday, June 11 from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. (Twitter)
- The Pinellas County Commission voted Tuesday to prohibit any new stores that sell dogs and cats, following surrounding local governments that recently moved on the issue. The county did not go as far as closing current stores though. (Subscription: Tampa Bay Times)
- The 50th anniversary celebration of Title IX is happening Thursday, June 23 at Amalie Arena in downtown Tampa. The event will be hosted by Spectrum, the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, the Tampa Bay Lightning, WISE Tampa Bay and the City of Tampa Mayor Jane Castor. (Twitter)
- Tampa International Airport is planning another hiring event on June 21, this time with a twist to attract potential restaurant, bar, coffee shop and retail employees. Guests will enjoy non-alcoholic "mocktails," food, music, networking and on-the-spot hiring by companies looking to fill more than 200 open positions at the airport. (Tampa International Airport)
- The Gulfport Merchants Chamber of Commerce (GMC) announced Tuesday plans to hire a full-time Director of Operations to help grow Chamber business, oversee the group's events, and grow the membership base of local businesses and artists. (Tampa Bay Newswire)
