Cold Front Set To Shake Up Tampa Bay Area Weather

A slow-moving cold front is expected to bring storms into the Tampa Bay area over the week ahead. Flooding may be a concern.

TAMPA, FL — A slow-moving cold front heading toward the Tampa Bay area is expected to make much of the week ahead a washout. While heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely throughout the workweek, forecasters say there’s a silver lining in the clouds. The daily highs in the region are not expected to crack the 90-degree mark.

Monday is anticipated to kick things off with a 70-percent chance of thunderstorms in much of the region. Those storms are expected during the daytime hours when the high should only reach the mid-80s. Storm chances are expected to wane in the early evening hours, but rise again in the overnight hours when the low should fall into the mid-70s.

Forecasters expect Tuesday to be a washout of sorts with a 90-percent chance of storms anticipated in the region during the daytime hours. Breezy conditions and a high only in the mid-80s are also likely. Storm chances remain heading into the overnight hours when the low should fall into the mid-70s.

Storm chances and breezy conditions are also expected on Wednesday when the day’s high should climb into the mid-80s. Scattered thunderstorms are anticipated in the nighttime hours Wednesday with a low in the mid-70s yet again.

The chances for rain begin to weaken a bit on Thursday. Forecasters anticipate a 40-percent chance of scattered storms during the day when the high should climb into the upper 80s. Isolated storms are also possible in the overnight Thursday, along with a low in the mid-70s.

Friday is expected to bring a return of sunny conditions for a time, but there’s also the potential for showers and thunderstorms part of the day. The high is expected to climb into the upper 80s.

Rain chances are expected to linger into the overnight hours Friday and well into the weekend ahead.

Forecasters say severe weather is not currently expected over the next few days, but warn that marine and beach conditions are likely to deteriorate starting on Tuesday. Flooding may also be a concern in some areas.

“Locally heavy rainfall is possible Tuesday into Wednesday, as a cold front very slowly moves southward toward the region,” forecasters warned in Monday’s Hazardous Weather Outlook report. “Multiple rounds of rainfall, possibly heavy, are in the forecast during the mid-week period, leading to the potential of localized flooding and travel concerns.”
