Man, 69, Killed In Fiery I-275 Crash

A Wednesday afternoon crash on Interstate 275 has left one man dead.

TAMPA, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fiery single-vehicle crash on Interstate 275 that left one man dead Wednesday afternoon.

According to the patrol, a Kia Spectra was heading southbound on I-275 near State Road 60 in the inside lane around 4 p.m. April 5. The driver, for unknown reasons, lost control of his car, entered the inside shoulder and hit a concrete barrier wall.

Troopers say the Kia then overturned several times "and partially caught fire."

The driver, who is not being identified at this time, died at the scene. Troopers said late Wednesday the man is a 69-year-old from Jacksonville.

The crash closed north and southbound lanes on I-275 in the area of the Howard Frankland Bridge for several hours. As of 8:30 p.m., all lanes had reopened.
