Here are the top stories today in Tampa:
- Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County has issued a public health advisory for Davis Islands Beach due to high bacteria levels. The bacteria could be dangerous for the public and authorities recommend the public stay out of the water. The beach will be sampled again in a week. (Tampa Patch)
- Rent in the Tampa area jumped 38 percent over the past year with Lutz growing the fastest, once one of the more affordable parts of town. Winter Haven is the cheapest part of town with the average rent at around $1,090. Rent also decreased in Riverview and Bradenton and they were the only towns to drop. (WFLA)
- Two Clearwater medics have been fired after accidentally declaring a man dead in February. The man was found to still be breathing after medics left and treated at a local hospital, according to authorities. The man said he woke up after spending two days in a coma. (ABC Action News)
- Former USF student Mark Sindyukov and Waka Flocka Flame have joined forces to create a new nightlife app. Slyde is a new app that uses curated data and information to improve nightlife experiences for users. The founder is originally from Russia and met the rapper at a club. (WTSP)
- The Mermaid Tavern has shuttered in Seminole Heights, according to CL Tampa. The company is now listed as "permanently closed" online, without any official announcement. The owner posted on social media that a leasing dispute led to the closure, which is happening quite a bit lately in the area. (Creative Loafing Tampa)
