"From dumpster dog to family dog, Chance has found his forever humans!" SPCA Florida wrote.

LAKELAND, FL - A dog left in a dumpster is getting a second chance with a new family. The dog, who rescue workers appropriately named Chance, was cleared for adoption at the SPCA Florida in Lakeland on Saturday and was adopted about four hours later, just in time for the holidays, according to the SPCA Facebook page.

On Dec. 12, Chance was found in a dumpster behind a Plant City strip mall by a mall employee taking out boxes. The dog was starving and on the brink of death with a temperature of 106 degrees. The dog was rushed to SPCA Florida and he was given medications to battle pancreatitis and hookworms.

Dog trainer Rafael Fontan, who asked for donations to help him, wrote on Facebook on Dec. 20 that Chance’s medical bills were covered by donations as well as the SPCA Guardian Angel Fund.

“Thank you to everyone who helped us put a dent in his bill, to those who shared his story which helped to get the media involved AND most importantly will help to get him into a new forever home for the new year!” Fontan wrote on Facebook. "Thanks to the community who cared for this abandoned dog, he now has a great “chance” to find that forever home."

On Saturday, SPCA Florida announced that Chance was ready for his adoption. The organization posted an update a few hours later that Chance had found his new family just in time for the holidays. The organization did not identify the family.
