FL Driver Dies After Hitting Truck Hauling Molten Sulfur On S.R. 60

A Winter Haven man died after failing to stop at a rail crossing and hitting the back of a tanker truck, the FL Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A 29-year-old Winter Haven man died early Sunday morning after slamming into the back of a tanker truck hauling molten sulfur on State Road 60 in Hillsborough County, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The driver was speeding along the highway when he failed to stop at the rail crossing east of Clarence Gordon Jr. Road and crashed his car into the truck just after 1 a.m.

He was declared dead at the crash scene, FHP said.

The truck’s driver, a 62-year-old Lithia man, was uninjured.

The crash remains under investigation.
