TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify a man wanted in connection with a Sunday night armed robbery.

According to police, a man walked into the 4900 N. 40th St. Family Dollar store just before 6 p.m. Sept. 17 and approached the counter. The man was holding an object in his right hand with what looked like a black T-shirt draped over it, an email from the agency said. “The suspect held his hand up to one of the store clerks, implied that he had a gun and demanded money from both registers,” the email from agency spokeswoman Janelle McGregor said. Both clerks complied with the demand, filling “a shopping bag with money out of the registers.”

With bag in hand, police say the man took off from the store in a gold Nissan Maxima that was parked behind the business along Louisiana Street.

On Tuesday, police released a video of the crime. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS or by going online to www.crimestopperstb.com. The Nissan is said to have a dent on the front driver’s door, dark-tinted windows, a sun roof and a spoiler. The suspect, police say, is a light-skinned black male who stands between 5-foot-10 and 6 feet. He has scarring or acne on his face.
