1 Killed, Man Charged With Premeditated Murder In Fatal FL Shooting

A man faces a premeditated murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of a man at a Tampa apartment complex, the sheriff said.

TAMPA, FL — A man was charged with murder in a fatal shooting at a Tampa apartment complex on Orange Grove Drive, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

When deputies responded to reports of gunfire at the apartment complex on Sunday around 3:45 a.m., they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at AdventHealth Carrollwood.

Detectives identified Jesiah Deangelo-Cruz, 19, as the suspect.

They obtained an arrest warrant for him later that day in connection to a domestic violence incident, the sheriff’s office said. He was charged with armed kidnapping, aggravated assault with a firearm and battery.

With help from the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, he was found and arrested in Pasco County.

As the investigation continued, detectives recovered additional evidence linking Deangelo-Cruz to the fatal shooting.

An arrested warrant charging him with premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm was obtained by investigators on Monday, the sheriff’s office said. He is being held in Pasco County and awaiting extradition.

"This suspect made a devastating and violent choice that took an innocent life. Thanks to the determined efforts of our detectives, he is now charged and will face the full consequences of his actions," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "We hope this brings comfort to the victim's loved ones, and we will continue working closely with our partners to ensure the suspect is held fully accountable."
