Fatal Pedestrian Crash Has Police Searching for Motorist Who Fled

A 52-year-old Tampa man was killed during a Wednesday night hit-and-run on Nebraska Avenue.

TAMPA, FL — The Tampa Police Department is investigating a fatal Wednesday night crash involving a pedestrian and two motorists. One of the motorists is accused of fleeing the scene where a 52-year-old man died.

According to the agency, Willie James Bacon Jr. was walking on North Nebraska Avenue near East Crawford Street around 11:37 p.m. Dec. 14. At that time, a Ford Explorer heading northbound struck Bacon. The impact, police said, threw Bacon into the southbound lanes where he was hit by a second vehicle. He died from his injuries.

The driver of the Explorer, Laquita Jackson, 42, stopped and cooperated with police, an email from the agency said. The second vehicle’s driver, however, did not stop, police said.
