Fatal Street Shooting Victim Identified: Tampa Police
The suspect in a fatal shooting on a Tampa street is claiming self-defense, police said.
TAMPA, FL — Authorities have identified the victim of a Friday evening fatal shooting on a Tampa street.
Dedrick Sykes, 41, was shot and killed in a dispute with another driver near East 5th Avenue and North 22nd Street, Tampa police said in a news release.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area around 7:10 p.m.

They found a man, later identified as Sykes, with a gunshot wound. He was brought to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.
Investigators learned Sykes argued with another man, who shot him.

The shooter, who remained at the scene, claimed self-defense, police said.
The suspect hasn’t been named and the shooting is under investigation.
