Feeding Tampa Bay President To Be Honored During YMCA Celebration

TAMPA, FL — Feeding Tampa Bay President and CEO Thomas Mantz will receive the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA’s 2021 Community Impact Award during the Tampa YMCA’s Community Impact Week, sponsored by Regions Bank.

In place of the annual Community Impact Dinner and to ensure the safety of the community, the Tampa Y is hosting a four-day virtual celebration March 22-25 on Facebook. The celebration will include, stories and more to celebrate the Y’s impact thank donors and community volunteers.

Among those recognized, the Tampa YMCA will recognize and thank Mantz for his dedication and positive impact on the Tampa Bay community.

“Thomas Mantz exemplifies the very purpose of what the Community Impact Award is all about,” said Tampa YMCA President and CEO Matt Mitchell. “His service to the community throughout the pandemic has been vital to the health and well-being of our kids and families. He did more than provide food and nourishment to those in need. He also displayed values of compassion and caring through actions that are examples for us all to live by.”

Previous recipients of the Community Impact Award include former Hillsborough County Superintendent Jeff Eakins, U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, Jeff and Penny Vinik, Doretha Edgecomb, Richard Gonzmart, former Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Hillsborough County Commissioner Ken Hagan, former Hillsborough County Commissioner Sandra Murman, former Florida CFO Alex Sink, former Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio and former Hillsborough County Superintendent MaryEllen Elia.

Also during the event, Tampa Y longtime supporters Cy and Joanne Spurlino will be recognized with the Red Triangle Award. This prestigious award is given to Y volunteers whose leadership, dedicated service and devotion to the Y mission have made significant and lasting impact in the community.

“The Red Triangle Award recognizes those who empower the Y to fulfill our promise to the community,” said Mitchell. “No one has held our hand more tightly than Cy and Joanne Spurlino, and we are so fortunate to have them as friends. It is an honor to recognize them as true owners of our mission and purpose.”

Ten Volunteers of the Year from Tampa Y family centers will also be recognized during the week of March 22-25.
