Fiery I-275 Crash: ID Released

Further information has been released following a fatal Wednesday crash on I-275 in Tampa.

TAMPA, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol has released more information about a fatal Wednesday afternoon crash on Interstate 275 that snarled traffic for hours.

According to the agency, Barry Edward Anderson, 69, of Jacksonville was driving a Kia Spectra south on I-275 around 4 p.m. April 5. As Anderson approached State Road 60 in the inside lane, he lost control of his vehicle, a highway patrol report said.

Anderson’s Kia left the road, ran onto the shoulder and struck a center median concrete barrier wall. The vehicle then overturned multiple times along the barrier before stopping and partially catching fire, the patrol said.

Anderson died at the scene, the report noted.

Alcohol is not a suspected factor in the crash. Anderson was the sole occupant of the vehicle, the agency said.

The crash closed I-275 lanes in both directions for several hours Wednesday.
