Five Jesuit High Students Earn Honors
The students earned awards ranging from scholarships to state honors for military and Key Club.
TAMPA, FL – Five Jesuit High School students have earned local and statewide honors over the past several weeks.
The award winners were:
- Jackson Masters, a senior, received a $10,000 scholarship from Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla. YMKG Executive Officer Don Barnes delivered the news in person to the school. Masters is the president of Jesuit’s Peer Ministers and a varsity football player, and will attend college at Florida State.
- Gabriel Brown, a senior, was named Key Clubber of the Year, the most prestigious award for Key Club members in Florida. Brown, who will attend Notre Dame, was awarded the honor at the state Key Club convention in early April.
- Matthew Tamashiro, a junior, earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT. Matthew is one of the two Ignatian Scholars in his grade at Jesuit. Jesuit has two Ignatian Scholars in each grade who receive an academic-based financial award.
- Kyle Erickson, a junior, received the Anne Frank Award from the Florida Holocaust Museum. Sharri Cagle, a representative from the museum, presented Erickson with the award at Convocation. He was chosen as president of Key Club for 2017-18 and was honored as the Distinguished Class Editor for Florida at the state Key Club awards.
- Greg Davis, a sophomore, was named the statewide military Youth of the Year winner along with a $5,000 scholarship from among the nine Florida military instillations. Davis earned the honor after being named the MacDill Air Force Base military Youth of the Year recipient in March. In June, Davis will travel to Atlanta to compete for the Southeast Region’s Youth of the Year honor and a $10,000 scholarship.
