WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Cory Mills could lose his Washington, D.C. apartment after a landlord suing the Florida Republican claims Mills owes $85,009 in back-rent, media reports say.

The unpaid rent, with monthly payments of $20,833, stems from March to July, NBC News reported.

The news appears to be first broken by independent journalist Roger Sollenberger, who on Monday tweeted a copy of the complaint filed by Bozzuto Management Company.

Mills responded to the tweet with images that appear to show he attempted to make the rent payments but was faced with malfunctioning process links.

"Roger, I know facts are unusual and unfamiliar thing for you, but here’s just the past two months where you can see I’m repeatedly asking for payment links and again as I tried with management today, it failed to process," Mills tweeted.

Bozzuto Management, a property management company, is seeking the eviction of Mills and is asking for an order mandating that Mills make future monthly payments through the court until the end of the case, NBC News reported.

“Congressman Cory Mills has been in contact with his landlord from the beginning, attempting to resolve the payment link issue so he can pay his bill,” Julie Singleton, Mills’ communication director, said in an email Tuesday, per the Washington Post.

Bozzuto has sought to evict Mills more than once, notifying Mills of its intent to sue in January, the Washington Post reported. At the time, at least $18,000 was owed, the news outlet reported.

A hearing in the case is set for Sept. 8, NBC News reported.

Mills joined the U.S. House of Representatives in 2023 and represents Florida's 7th District, which extends from Orlando to Daytona Beach.

The newcomer to Congress is an Army combat veteran and Bronze Star recipient, according to his biography. He was born in Winter Haven and has lived in Auburndale.
