Trooper Smashes Window To Rescue Unresponsive Driver On FL Highway

A Riverview woman had a medical emergency on I-75 and hit two guardrails, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL — A Florida state trooper responding to a Thursday morning crash on Interstate 75 smashed the window of a car to rescue an unresponsive driver, authorities said.

A 57-year-old Riverview woman driving a Chrysler 300 was heading north on the highway when she had a medical emergency near milepost 257 around 9:30 a.m., Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.

She entered the I-75 median and hit a guardrail, before continuing back across the northbound lanes and crashing into another guardrail at the U.S. 301 exit before her car came to a stop.

The trooper who responded to the crash broke the car’s passenger window to reach the driver and provide first aid, FHP said.

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office also responded and helped the trooper provide medical assistance to the woman.

She was brought to an area hospital, where she is in serious condition.
