  1. A student at Frostproof High School was recently murdered by his father, according to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. The teenager was living with his grandfather and trying to help him make ends meet. The son was killed with a power tool and discovered by his grandfather, who was left in shock. Police have the father in custody. (Tampa Patch)
  2. The Salty Donut is finally opening in Tampa's Hyde Park Village after a long wait on Friday, Sept. 15. The new shop will celebrate its opening with giveaways all weekend long through Sept. 17. The shop is also offering a preview prior to opening for those who win a raffle online. (That's So Tampa)
  3. A Polk County deputy is facing charges related to speeding at over 130 mph while intoxicated and refusing to stop. The deputy has since resigned from his position. The Polk County Sheriff's office said the deputy hit a median and then swerved into fellow law enforcement officers. (ABC Action News)
  4. Lynx Automation, a company that works with hotel and vacation rentals, is relocating from California to the Tampa area. The company joins a growing number of companies moving to Florida from the Golden State. The company plans to double in size to nearly 100 employees over the next year, according to St. Pete Catalyst. (St. Pete Catalyst)
  5. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Chief Dennis Jones has been named "Florida Career Fire Chief of the Year" by his peers. Jones leads over 1,200 personnel in the county and first joined Tampa Fire Rescue in 1978 before leading the county. (Osprey Observer)
